About

Nine-time Grammy winner Dave Cobb has forever changed the sound of Music City. As the producer-in-residence at historic RCA Studio A on music row in Nashville—a room where Dolly Parton, Waylon Jennings, and others recorded career-defining music—he’s making some history of his own. Cobb is one of Music City’s most in-demand collaborators, regardless of genre.

Born in Georgia, Cobb grew up hearing hymns from his grandmother, a Pentecostal minister, and his parents’ Oak Ridge Boys records. After he picked up the guitar, he fell in love with the Beatles, the Smiths, and AC/DC, and as a young session musician in Atlanta, he absorbed the sounds of the city’s R&B scene.

Before moving to Nashville over a decade ago, Cobb was living in Los Angeles developing his production career. In L.A. he met and befriended Shooter Jennings which resulted in a string of well received albums together and a post-homos Waylon Jennings album. In Nashville, the music drew attention of modern-day outlaws Jamey Johnson and Sturgill Simpson, and Dave produced critically acclaimed albums for both artists. He followed up by producing Grammy winning albums such as Chris Stapleton’s 5x-platinum Traveller, Jason Isbell’s Southeastern and Brandi Carlile’s By The Way I Forgive You.

Dave’s interest in the intersection of film and music led him to become a go-to film music producer and creative consultant working on Baz Luhrmann’s ELVIS, the Jessica Chastain’s Eyes Of Tammy Faye and the 2018 remake of A Star Is Born. He produced Lady Gaga’s Grammy-winning showstopper “Always Remember Us This Way.”

His recent works include albums for Greta Van Fleet, The War And Treaty, Jenny Lewis and Reba McEntire, adding to his illustrious and diverse discography featuring Barry Gibb, Brandi Carlile, The Highwomen, Zach Bryan, Bruce Springsteen, Colter Wall, Elle King, Slash, Gavin DeGraw, Shania Twain and many more.

In 2022 Dave built two state-of-the art recording studios in his hometown of Savannah, Georgia where he now splits his time between Nashville. One of his first projects in Savannah was writing and producing music for the forthcoming Hunger Games prequel Ballad Of Songbirds And Snakes. Though the medium may have changed, Cobb’s focus—the artist’s voice—remains the same.
